Special Telephone Call Tax Update for LIME Customers

The Government of Jamaica has introduced a special telephone tax on all calls originating in Jamaica, effective July 15, 2012. This will include a tax of J$0.05 (five cents) per minute on landline to landline calls, and a tax of $0.40 (forty cents) per minute on all other calls - such as mobile to mobile, landline to mobile, mobile to landline and international calls.

Despite this tax our TALK EZ and XL Value rates will continue to provide our customers with the best value in the industry.

As a result customers who have been enjoying the new low rate of just $2.99 can continue to talk "nuff' as this rate will include the new tax.

And XL Value customers can continue to talk longer, as they will now pay a new standard rate of just $7.99 for all calls ? LIME to LIME, LIME to other networks and LIME to international*- plus tax.  This is a reduction of almost 50% for some calls.  

We are confident that whatever plan our customers choose they will get the best value by far.

The table below outlines these changes:

Bundled plans affected by this special TAX are as follows:

Note:
If the Faves minutes are finished but the plan has not expired, calls will be billed at the Talk EZ rates.
If the Faves minutes are finished and the plan has expired then all calls will be billed at the XL Value rate.

Changes to some of our other plans are as follows:

Landline and Mobile Postpaid customers will have the new tax reflected separately on their monthly bills.
The introduction of the special tax imposed on telephone call traffic originating in Jamaica is related to the Government of Jamaica's (GOJ) revenue enhancement measures - Ministry Paper No. 37.
According to this government document, as of July 15 the following will apply:

1. A tax of J$0.05 (five cents) per minute on all calls made and received on the landline only
2. A tax of J$0.40 (forty cents) per minute on  calls made from a landline to mobile, landline to international, mobile to mobile, mobile to landline and mobile to international

It should also be noted that there are still some calls for which the new tax does not apply. These are:

1. Numbers that are used to access emergency and special services. (Calls to N11 and X11, where N can be digits 2-9 and X can be digits 0-9) Such numbers are 311,911, etc
2. Calls to numbers used to activate and de-activate services usually of the form *XX
3. Calls to access voice mail
4. Calls to on-net customer care
5. Calls to add or determine available credit
